Ok, Ok, I Give In…

Right.  So let’s state the obvious.  I have been extremely remiss lately when it comes to this blog.  I’m not proud of it, and I don’t have an excuse.  I’ve been a fine combination of busy and lazy (the latter being key here) and I’m sorry.  But I’m back.  And what better way to start than with this?  A 9-year-old in 1991 performing with every tiny bone in his body to Maddonna’s “Vogue”.

Robert Jeffrey is the star of this video (which we should all praise baby JESUS for), and in the description of it on YouTube he explains the background:

“I performed to MADONNA’s “VOGUE” in the Summer of 1991 when my parents took me to Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. A business in the casino at the time gave tourists the chance to lip-synch to their favorite pop songs in front of a blue screen background, and I was lucky enough to partake that summer.

In honor of the twentieth anniversary of MADONNA’s “TRUTH OR DARE” and in celebration of MADONNA’s upcoming “W.E.”, here is my nine year old self paying tribute to the woman who changed my life and continues to inspire me just as much today as twenty years ago.”

Probably fair to say that the assumption we all made while watching the video was accurate (having said that I have a few friends who romance girls who I can envisage having made a video like this, one in particular…).  Robert Jeffrey, in the words of RuPaul, “You better WORK.”

50 People, 1 Question in Galway

I will always have a special place in my heart for Galway so I was happy to see this video, which was filmed there, on my friend Josh’s facebook page today.

It made me think about my own regrets, and I was sad to realize I have lots.  What made me even sadder is thinking about certain ways I think about things and myself currently, that I will probably list as a regret someday.  With age comes wisdom, eh?

Beyonce

Loads of Beyonce stuff today, firstly the news that she’s playing Oxegen!  Please Beyonce, let me get a free ticket and please Beyonce, play a greatest hits set!

Secondly, she is awesome.  She surprised these kids in Harlem by joining them while they danced to her song “Move Your Body”, needless to say they were excited.

Oh Beyonce, you disappoint me with “Girls” and then you reel me right back in with this.  All Hail Queen B.

Miss Representation

This makes me really very sad.

I want to do something about this but I don’t know what to do.  I want young women to value themselves beyond their appearance, but how can I do that when it’s something I struggle with myself?
