Snow and Kindness

While I appreciate that at this point many of us are sick and tired of the snow, I can’t help but be grateful for one thing.  It seems to have made us kinder!  We’re all united in our disbelief at the amount of the white stuff falling from the sky and it seems to be breeding a level of friendliness that had been missing for quite some time.  I’ve had more friendly chats with strangers over the last 3 days than I have in the last 3 months!  Add to that the pure joy on my littlest sister’s face today when she came in for her lunch, and I’ll take the snow!

What I won’t take however, is packs of teenage shitheads targetting people on the street.  I was left in tears the other night after a group of about twelve 16 year old DICKHEADS pelted me with snowballs on Pearse Street.  I’m all for a bit of fun, but the whole thing was really intimidating, especially as one girl followed me down the road throwing snowball after snowball at my head.  I had a few choice words for them, but was left really shaken by the whole thing.  You can imagine my delight when I read my friend George’s Facebook status this afternoon:

Just shoved a lad’s head into the snow after he flung a snowball and spilt my coffee all over me. Revenge is a dish best served by swift retaliation.

George, you’re my hero.

P.S.  Just heard Brian O’Driscoll is apparently pushing snow-stricken cars up Leeson St.  What a hero.

What in the Name of Leona Lewis?!?

…is going on here?

I’ll tell you what!  Ir’s a load of failed Britain’s Got Talent/X Factor/Popstars contestants butchering Don’t Stop Believing a la Bill Nighy’s character in Love Actually.  According to the blurb under the Youtube video the song features:

Shaun Smith, Britain Got Talent 2009 , Stacey McClean, X Factor 2009 (Final 6 Girls) , Rikki Loney, X Factor 2009, Nikitta Angus, X Factor Series 3 (final 7), Kimberley Southwick, X Factor Series 4 (Final 12), PopStars, and more! All the singers are part of the G*Mania Stars.

The who now?  G*Mania of course!!  “Reality TV’s Ultimate Pop Group”!  Apparently the G stands for Glee, because that’s what inspired this mess.  I’m embarrassed for them.

SNOW!

Right, I know this is stating the obvious, but I can’t help but exclaiming, “SWEET MOTHER MOLASSES it is REALLY snowy out there!”  To be honest, after living through 9 Chicago Winters I’ve always had a somewhat snooty attitude towards Irish snow.  I’d watch people get excited and think, “Oh yeah, this is nothing!  You haven’t a clue!”  There is no snoot about me today though!  This is the first time I remember there being proper, hardcore snowfall in Ireland and it’s pretty cool.  Not for people who have to actually get places and achieve things beyond their house, but for anyone who can use it as an excuse to stay home.  Enjoy it if you can!

Films Please!

I am very very very excited to see The Black Swan, and was delighted to see photos from the premieres all over the net.  However, my delight was short lived because it will not be released on this side of the world until February.  Until then I’ll just have to watch the trailer over and over again…

Fortunately it’s only a couple of weeks until I get to see this masterpiece:

Cher.  Christina.  A plot that’s summary starts with “A small-town girl ventures to Los Angeles…”?  What more could I ask for?
