Every once in a while I hear a story that makes me believe that the stuff we see in films might actually be based in fact. That the white knight, the romantic surprise and the happily ever after are not only the thing of dreams…and the story of Keir Moffatt is one of them.
The 26 year old was on his way home to Bristol after a visit to Cardiff when he had one of those moments. We’ve all had them, be the on a train, in Spar, or at an STI clinic. Well, maybe not so much the STI clinic. But it happens all the time – you lock eyes with a stranger and for a moment there is a connection. If you have an over active imagination like me, you begin to imagine the life you could lead together. You know the stuff, frolicking through meadows, kissing at sunset, raising your beautiful cherubic children…but then you pay for your pot noodle and when you turn around…they’re gone. Anywho, Keir had one of those moments, but he has decided not to let it go. He has taken romance into the 21st century and set up a facebook group to try to find his girl!
On the facebook page Keir says:
”On the train back to Bristol from Cardiff last week, a gorgeous girl in my carriage really caught my eye.
”We barely spoke but, when she left, I regretted not speaking to her more – and asking her out.
”When I was driving home with my mate, I mentioned my regret and he said ‘Well, you know what they say, you’re never more than three people away from who you want to know’.
”Half an hour later, and perhaps against my better judgement, I set up this Facebook group to see if my mate’s theory was true – to see if I could find the Mystery Train Girl and get a second chance to ask her out.”
Ah… Since then, more than 13,000 people have joined the search, but as she hasn’t turned up, Keir decided that she might not want to be found and called it off. Now he’s raising money for charity or something (I was too lazy to figure it all out but you can check it out here).
One way or the other, isn’t it lovely to think that he went to the effort? And that you if you’re single, tomorrow this could happen to you! You could lock eyes with a stranger on a train, and that could be it! Romance is not dead…keep the dream alive people.
