Britney sans Airbrushing

Poor auld Britney gets an awful lot of flack over the use of airbrushing on photographs of her.  I mean, I can kind of understand it.  In her daily life she generally looks like a hot mess minus the hot, so when she appears in professional photos like some immaculate sex bomb it’s hard to believe.  Now though, we can see the truth, as she has released a set of photos pre and post airbrushing.  Check this shizz out:

Don’t know about you, but I think she looks pretty good in the original photo.  I certainly don’t feel like I’ve been hugely deceived through the use of photoshop.  Fair play to Britney.  Maybe she’s just an unmade bed and proud of it!  God knows I am.

Villagers

The incredibly talented and incredibly lovely Conor O’Brien (Villagers) is on Jools Holland tonight.  Villagers were signed last year to Domino Records (responsible for Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, She and Him and much much more) which is pretty major.  He recorded an album in Donegal, and as we near it’s release it’s really exciting to see his music get more and more recognition.  Tonight he will be on Later Live-With Jools Holland on BBC2 at 10pm alongside Paul Weller, Hot Chip and Marina and the Diamonds.  If you like music, you do not want to miss this.  Serial.

Crystal Swing on Ellen

Oh dear God it’s absolutely mortifying.  If you were a listener to iWakeup with Louise and Lynch you may remember that not too long ago we had a discussion about the portrayal of the Irish in American movies being really inaccurate and twee.  As it turns out it’s a perfectly accurate portrayal of whatever land Crystal Swing live in.  They have successfully set our reputation back 50 years.  Well done lads.  You can see the full interview here:  http://ellen.warnerbros.com/

But here is their view of Cork (Look out for the Jameson product placement):

Good.  God.

“A light wind swept over the corn, and all nature laughed in the sunshine.” Anne Bronte

Sunshine makes everything better.  FACT.

Yes, I am a victim of the recession.  Yes, I have to sign on for the first time in my life.  Yes, I’m feeling sad and disappointed at certain aspects of my circumstance…but when the sun is out everything stressful seems so inconsequential!

There certainly wasn’t any stress in my weekend.  I ventured off to Donegal in a minibus full of mates on Friday afternoon to surprise our mate Gerard before he heads off the New York for a new adventure.  We love him to bits, and wanted to make sure he knew that and also of course to ensure that we have a bed to stay in the next time we go to NYC (I jest).  I think he knows fo sheezy now how important he is to us, but I have to say, rather selfishly, I’d be fairly sure I got more out of the weekend than he did.  We had booked the waterbus for Friday night which heads off the coast for a couple of hours (bar on board of course), and some of the views from it were spectacular.

As you can see here!

The night was full of drinking, dancing and merriment so while many had to head back to Galway on Saturday I was delighted to stay with a few heads in Donegal for another night.  We ventured all the way to Kilcar, taking in more beautiful views along the way.

And upon arrival, the local barkeep was more than happy to break out a table and chairs so we could have a few beverages outside.  Add a car with tunes and we were on to an absolute winner.

A BBQ, an Indian, and many beers later, I am back in Galway dealing with real life.  Which as I mentioned doesn’t seem so bad in the sun.

Today real life consists of an appointment with the beach.

Hard times.

LOVES!

Tiger, Tiger, Tiger…

WHO in their right mind thought that this was a good idea?

This ad appeared on ESPN and the Golf Channel on the eve of his return to golf, and the world has reacted with largely uncomfortable emotions.  I can see why.  Using his father’s death and his transgressions to make money for himself and Nike?  Doesn’t really seem right.  When asked about it yesterday after his first morning of golf however he seemed unapologetic, saying “It’s amazing how my dad can speak to me from different ways, even when he’s long gone. He’s still helping me.”

“I think any son who has lost a father and who meant so much in their life, I think they would understand the spot.”

Would they Tiger?  Or would it make them feel like you took advantage of a tragedy to keep your Nike endorsement?

Thank You.

Hi Guys.

Thank you all for your lovely comments both here and on the facebook over the last 24 hours.  You should know I’m really sad to be leaving i102-104, and that I would have loved to have said goodbye on air.  Unfortunately it’s company policy that nothing be said about departures.

I hope to be on air again somewhere soon, so hopefully we’ll speak again.  I have been grateful for each and every one of you every morning that I’ve been lucky enough to wake you up.

Now – to business!

Hello and Welcome!

Hi Guys!  Thanks for taking the time to pop in here.  Unfortunately, today was myself and the Lynch’s last day on iWakeup.  It has been amazing to spend mornings with you over the last couple of years, but as they say, all good things must come to an end.  The facebook page will be going soon, so I’ve started this blog so that I can continue to post newspaper stories, youtube videos, songs, photos and stories I think you might find interesting.  I’ll be updating on a regular basis, so bookmark it and pop back if you fancy a bit of an escape from your work/study/however you occupy your time.  For now, enjoy Boogie Boogie Hedgehog!

Feel free to comment, and hopefully the banter can continue here!  x
